Word Up
I know it’s nearing the end of the second week of January, but I still kind of feel like we’re only getting started, y’know?
I’ve been thinking about how to approach this year. Instead of resolutions, I quite like the idea of creating goals – real, tangible things that I can work towards, not pie-in-the-sky dreams that seem so scary I don’t even start. (I’m all for pie-in-the-sky dreams, btw, but giving them top billing on my to-do list is the best way to guarantee that I’ll ever do them).
In addition to this, Susannah Conway’s approach of having a word gave me some food for thought. It can work as a mental talisman, something you say to yourself before something new, challenging or scary. A daily reminder. The word that instantly jumped to mind for me, for lots of reasons, was…
I really want this to be a year of growth. Of learning new things (am exploring the idea of an evening course or two). Of feeding and watering this blog and watching it grow. Of expanding my photo skills. Of having more herbs on my windowsill. Of being more involved in how my two adorable nephews are growing. Of finally visiting Mexico, home to my roots, and seeing how that experience makes me grow as a person.
Do you have a word? If, like me, you’re still in the mood for a bit of exploring and scheming, I’d really recommend Susannah’s (free!) Unravelling workbook. It’s great fun and can really help put a shape on what you’d like out of the year.
To top things off, here are some of my fave new year inspired posts from around the web:

- Practical: This gorgeous 2013 pink and orange day planner caught my eye.
- Tasty: 10 super healthy recipes (really want to try the apple crisps one).
- Encouraging: Lovely words worth remembering.
