Sometimes it's the journey

I traveled a lot as a kid, and a teen. Sure, that's part and parcel of the circus thing, but a lot of my travel was actually to and from the circus, as opposed to with it, as my sis and I went to boarding school and made regular trips to wherever the circus happened to be. As soon as I was a teenager, I was allowed travel solo and spent many hours on Bus Eireann buses criss-crossing the country.
Last weekend, I hopped on a bus to Galway for a hen party and realised that it had been ages since I had traveled, alone, for any length of time. All in, I spent around five hours in near total silence, reading (this book, this gorgeous Brooklyn apartment tour and the new issue of Image), listening to music (Tidal's The Tidal Ten playlist is great), snoozing and, my favourite: Staring out the window and day dreaming. There's something so soothing about watching fields whizz by, seeing the weather change while feeling warm and cocooned, getting completely lost in my thoughts. Rarely do I spend that much time alone at weekends now, and I enjoyed letting thoughts simmer and percolate, unfolding things they might not have done in the regular day-to-day rush.
Happy Monday, and have a great week!
