Throwing a Zelda-themed birthday party
Yahaha!
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are both big favourites in our household.
While Ben and I have been playing Breath of the Wild since before Ari was born (and, in a beautiful act of serendipity, Tears of the Kingdom came out a few weeks into my mat leave with Ada), Ari has only recently started dipping into the world of Hyrule himself (as his reading skills have developed) on the Switch.
He was excited to plan a themed birthday party, so, for any fellow Legend of Zelda stans out there, I'm sharing some snaps and links to the few bits we went with.
Ari's cousin kindly loaned us his beloved Breath of the Wild poster for the party and the Sheikah Slate necklace was one of his birthday presents.
Our general rule for themed parties to try to be as low-waste as possible – my mum already had resuable party plates and cups, so we tried to keep the theming to edible/perishable things, or things we know will get used and play with again.
The snacks
These themed print-at-home food labels on Etsy were such a winner, and we had lots of fun coming up with Link-approved snacks.
While some were easy (berries and hydromelons), and my mum made super cute Heart Container cookies and cupcakes, I think the Dubious Food (aka guac with food colouring) was my favourite – even if it did seriously blue-up people's tongues!
The cake
We 3D-printed a couple of guardians (models here) and surprised Ari with a Link amiibo as the cake topper.
The games
Possibly the cutest and funnest bit – we hid 3D-printed Koroks (this design) in mum's garden for the kiddos to find (we only have a single-colour 3D printer, so just filled in the eyes and mouth using a black pen). Successfully finding a Korok scored you a "korok seed" (aka a Ferrero Rocher choc).
