Moments from May

This month felt like it veered wildly from the fast to the slow – there were deadlines and date nights, May festivals and the odd margarita. There was also the montage of little kid life – snacks and laundry and bedtimes and slow afternoons in the woods or the park or the beach.

Here are a few highlights:

Working on...

Reading & Listening to

  • Just started Glorious Exploits by Ferdia Lennon, which is fresh and funny – an exploration of friendship and art in Ancient Sicily, but told in a contemporary Dublin voice.
  • I'm also dipping in and out of Banshee: Mythological Irish Women Retold by Ailbhe Malone and Pixie by Jill Dawson, which tells the story of Pamela 'Pixie' Colman Smith, artist, publisher and illustrator of the iconic Rider–Waite–Smith tarot deck.
  • Still on Olivia Dean, this time on vinyl.
  • Two library books that have been a big hit in our house: Aquamanatee by Ben Clanton and the first in the Jedi Academy series by Jeffrey Brown.

Eating & Drinking

  • Ben is on a serious sourdough buzz, and we are all here for it.
  • Got the kiddos involved in Vietnamese spring roll making, and it was a hit.
  • A recent Lúnasa Farm delivery contained an incredible skirt steak, which we turned into barbecued steak tacos.
  • New coffee shops are popping up all over the place here in Galway, including a new Little Lane Bonham Quay and gorgeous new Plamas, just a few doors open from the original one.

Family fun

  • We all enjoyed a family trip out to the Burren (and the slow food festival).
  • May festivals all around - both kids had May day festivals and they were so sweet and lovely.
  • Messy outdoor painting: no better way to brighten up blank walls than to give these two a canvas and some paints. Ada also became the canvas in the process.
